Movies, Games, and Events…Oh My! 10 Upcoming Things to Do on Campus

Written By: Taylor Rico-Pekerol

Boise State has a lot to offer people to stay busy and active every day. Departments on campus like Student Involvement, Admissions, Campus Recreation, and Event Services, along with others, work to make sure there is an abundance of interactive, collaborative, and social events to meet new people and have a great experience.

Here are 10 things to do in your first few weeks on campus!

Outdoor Movie Night

August 21 at 9:00 p.m.

Grab some snacks and a blanket and meet at the Student Union Intramural Field next to the SUB patio to watch “Shrek.” And in the morning, Donkey’s making waffles… not really, but on Monday, Aug. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. grab a pancake on the Quad for the Shortstack Shindig.

Take a walk through the Quad

August 23-27

Take a minute and experience the tabling… student groups of all kinds will be tabling in the Quad the first week of school. Although the temptation to put headphones in and look straight ahead is strong, take a second to see if anything sparks your interest! From fraternities and sororities, worship and church groups, to the MakerLab, there is something on the Quad for everyone to get involved in!

Tea for Two

August 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Ever tried speed dating? No? Well grab a friend, or come alone, for the friend speed dating event where you can meet new people in a fun, fast-paced environment. The event will be on the Student Union Patio with refreshments!

Outdoor Yoga

August 28 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

Roll out your yoga mat for some mindful meditation with friends, or by yourself, on the Sawtooth/Honors College lawn! The first week of classes can be hectic, and developing healthy practices is good to maintain a balanced school and social life. Namaste!

Welcome BBQ

August 27 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Join International Student Services in Julia Davis Park for food and fun in the sun! With good music and food, what’s not to love? Everyone is welcome so feel free to bring your family or friends to enjoy the festivities.

Student Media Meet-n-Greet on the street

August 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Student Media will have games, photo opportunities, and food set up outside of the Student Media office next to the Lincoln Garage and Bike Shop. Student Media is an umbrella organization that houses the student-newspaper The Arbiter, the student-radio The Pulse, and The Creative Hive Group. Stop by to learn more!

Part-time Job Fair and/or the Involvement Fair

August 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Come to the Intramural Field outside of the Student Union Building and find your dream part-time job. From opportunities for on-campus and off-campus work, there is something for everyone to gain experience and skill in an area they care about. Talk with job recruiters and get hired!

September 1 from 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m.

Looking to get even more involved on campus? Check out the involvement fair for an abundance of opportunities to dive into campus life and make lasting connections. Register to attend the Job Fair here and get free goodies and fun activities in the Jordan Ballroom.

Broncos of Color Mix n’ Mingle

September 2 at 5:30 p.m.

Mix it up with staff and students who can understand a unique life and school experience from a person of color’s perspective. Join those at the Student Equity Center for food, conversation, and fun!

Discover the REC

Do you like rock climbing, lifting weights or playing a pick up game of basketball? Check out the Boise State Student REC where you can find everything you need to get a good sweat in or hang out with some friends. From group exercise classes to Intramural teams, there is something for everyone!

Take a walk on the Greenbelt

The Boise River is an enticing natural element of campus and adds a unique experience for students and the like walking from one end of campus to the other. But you don’t only have to walk along it. Grab a friend and take some towels down to the river’s beach and relax next to the water. If you have a hammock, even better!
