Tree Campus Recognition

Tree Campus For Higher Education Institution

In 2025, Boise State was once again designated as a Tree Campus for Higher Education.  Trees are part of what makes Boise State’s campus so great.  Boise State is recognized as a Higher Education Tree Campus through the Arbor Day Foundation. In meeting the standards for the designation set by the foundation, the university “contributes to a greener and healthier campus environment.”

Service Learning

This designation is possible through a strong partnership between the Environmental Studies program, Facilities, and Sustainability.  A service-learning component is necessary to receive the Tree Campus recognition.  Our service-learning project, completed by Environmental Studies students in Dr. Mari Rice’s class,  consisted of mapping, measuring, and identifying every tree on campus.  These surveys informed the Landscape Manager about the overall health of trees on campus.

Environmental studies students played a huge role in gaining the initial Tree Campus recognition.  To learn more about the trees on campus, check out the story map created by service learning students in Environmental Studies.
