Scantron Services Policies

Instructors who administer Scantron-based exams should be aware of the policies outlined below. These guidelines are intended to streamline the Scantron grading process and ensure the fastest turnaround time. While it is sometimes possible to deliver your results on the same day, instructors should always plan to receive their reports within two business days, as outlined in the policy.

Scantron Policies & Procedures

Turnaround Policies & Expectations

Turnaround Time

Scantron Services provides faculty with a turnaround time of 2 business days. Exams that are dropped off after hours are not considered received until the following business day. Business hours are Monday through Friday, between 9 AM and 5 PM. Scantron Exams can be campus-mailed to Scantron Services at MS #1450; however, if time is a concern, it is recommended that instructors personally deliver them to room 217 in the SMASH building.

Expectations

While it’s sometimes possible to process Scantrons on the same day, busier testing periods make it difficult to do this consistently. Instructors should always be prepared for a two business day turnaround.

Holds & Service Hours

Holding Period

After grading, instructors will receive exam results immediately via email. Bubble sheets are held for two business days, then mailed to the instructor’s department mail stop. If no mail stop number is provided on the drop-off form, sheets will be sent to the mail stop listed in the faculty directory. Processed scantron sheets can be picked up within the holding period. Scantron Services office is in the Simplot Micron Academic Success Hub (SMASH) room 217, on the second floor.

Hours of Operation

Scantron Services is open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. We are closed on all university holidays; including Thanksgiving week and spring break.

Grading Requirements & Report Delivery

Grading Policy

If you’re having students submit their sheets in sorted stacks, ask them to keep the bubble sheets in a uniform orientation. When delivered, the black squares along the edges should be aligned. Misaligned stacks must be hand-sorted, which delays the grading process for all exams in the queue. As a result, Scantron Services cannot process tests with more than the occasional upside-down sheet. Stacks with an excessive number of misaligned sheets may be moved to the back of the queue or sent back to the instructor for sorting.

  • Important: Scantron Services staff can not bubble in any information on behalf of the professor or students. Please make sure that your keys are accurate. Tests that are re-processed with a modified answer key are not given priority over the existing queue.

Report Delivery

After grading, grade reports are sent to the email indicated on the drop-off form. The reports can only be sent to the instructor’s Boise State email address. Please do not provide a personal email address. Scantron Services cannot apply custom grading curves or provide printed copies of the reports.
