BTMB audition: drumline

We are excited that you are interested in becoming a member of the Boise State University Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band Drumline! The audition process is designed to help our staff understand your current skill level before you join the band, so please don’t feel intimidated—we want you to succeed.

To be considered complete, every audition must include the following components:

Fundamentals

  • Using an audible metronome, please play both pages of the Rudiment Builders based on the instrument(s) for which you are interested. Note that while Rudiment Builders sheet music is marked as snare, it should be performed on your audition instrument of choice
  • Duple exercises should be played at one tempo, compound meter exercises should be played at another. Select tempi that fit your ability level
  • Instrument specific downloadable pdf of fundamental portion of audition can be found below.

Repertoire

Using an audible metronome, play the Fanfare for All Broncos and the Bronco Rally Song

Visual

  1. Double Beat-March:  Play at (112bpm) moving forwards and backwards 8 to 5
  2. 16th Note Diddle Exercise-March:  Play at (120 bpm) while marching a box (forward, right, back, left 8, all steps 8 to 5)
