Diversity in Tech

This VIP course will not be accepting students for Spring 2023 semester. 

What is the ambitious goal of the Diversity in Tech team?

Recruitment and Retention through Service. Join this team to learn about the state of diversity in technology fields, examine best practices for increasing diversity, and get involved in local High Schools. Students taking this class will learn about the state of diversity in technology fields. Students will apply recruitment strategies in their community. Experience Gained

Students will be able to discuss the pros and cons of diversity efforts in technology industries, evaluate existing diversity programs, and support and design new diversity programs. Students will also learn software engineering and project planning skills.

Methodologies and/or Technologies used to achieve project goals:

  • coding and coding software
  • case studies
  • human interface design
  • K-12 outreach and collaboration
  • mobile tech development
  • nonprofit management

Majors and Interests Needed

  • Any/All
  • Completion of CS 121

Dr. Catherine Olschanowsky 
Dr. Catherine (Cathie) Olschanowsky is currently Assistant Professor in the computer science department at Boise State University. She was previously a research professor in the Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering Departments at CSU. Her research area is high performance computing application performance. Course Information

Full semester course.
Choose to enroll in 1 or 2 credits in VIP 200, VIP 400, or VIP 500
Team meetings: Fridays at 1:30 PM
