{"id":7858,"date":"2024-01-30T14:02:20","date_gmt":"2024-01-30T21:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/webguide\/?p=7858"},"modified":"2026-04-13T16:10:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T22:10:22","slug":"earn-a-micro-certification-badge-in-web-accessibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/webguide\/2024\/01\/30\/earn-a-micro-certification-badge-in-web-accessibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Earn a micro-certification badge in web accessibility"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We are pleased to announce the course refresh for the Web Tools and Remediation Micro-Certification badge is complete, and the course is open for enrollment!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-expanded-audience\">Expanded audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Started in 2017, the Web Tools and Remediation Micro-Certification badge course was originally designed to support web administrators in publishing and managing content within WordPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, interest in the topic quickly grew, and the course needed adjustment to meet the needs of a wider audience. With this new course refresh, the target audience has expanded to support anyone employed at Boise State who is interested in learning more about web accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-required-or-optional-professional-development\">Required or optional professional development<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One way the course meets the needs of different audiences is by having a path for both required and optional course content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The content in the \u201crequired\u201d modules is more broad and informational in nature. In these required modules, you will learn more about the following topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;Introduction to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write alternative text descriptions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Structure page content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The required section is mainly informational and designed to introduce concepts important to web accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who want to go further to demonstrate their skills in creating accessible web content and earn a micro-certification, there are additional activities to complete. These optional modules focus on the following topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Explore user personas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sort through additional accessibility resources and topics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use tools to create accessible content<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check work before publishing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Learners must complete all required and optional activities to earn the micro-certification badge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-time-commitment\">Time commitment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since this is a self-paced course, the time to complete the activities may vary from person to person. However, we recommend setting aside 1-2 hours to complete the three required modules, and up to 10 hours to complete the additional four optional modules.
