In her presentation, \u201c(Re)centering the Margins: Alice Diop\u2019s \u2018<em>Nous\u2019<\/em>,\u201d Devereux Herbeck analyzed French filmmaker Alice Diop\u2019s recently released documentary as a contemporary mise-en-sc\u00e8ne and reexamination of\u00a0 bell hooks\u2019s (sic) seminal essay \u201cChoosing the Margin as a Radical Space of Openness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Devereux Herbeck, \u201cIn \u2018<em>Nous<\/em>,\u2019 Diop renders the margins of Parisian society a \u2018site of resistance\u2019 as she questions the identity and portrayal of \u2018we\u2019 in modern society.\u201d Devereux Herbeck\u2019s analysis of these contiguous scenes of the film served to demonstrate to what extent Diop\u2019s film\u2019s editing questions the traditional framing of French national identity. Whose life and death have been honored and retold?
