Industrial Atomic Force Microscopy Technology and College-Workforce Transition

Abstract: One of the most important steps in the semiconductor manufacturing and R&;D
process is qualification. To meet the metrology challenges of ever-decreasing feature
dimensions, semiconductor manufacturers are increasingly turning to atomic force microscopy
[AFM]. As a leader in both Industrial and Research AFM systems Park Systems provides unique
metrology solutions to global semiconductor companies. In this seminar, Ashton Enrriques will
share his undergraduate experience at Boise State and his transition to the semiconductor
industry workforce. Matthew Young, Director of Industrial Support for Park Systems Americas,
will introduce Park’s metrology technologies and their applications for local and global
semiconductor customers.

Matthew Young Bio: Matthew is Director of Industrial Applications and Technical Support for
Park Systems in the Americas, initially joining the company in 2017 as a Technical Support
Engineer. Prior to this, he received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Mississippi State
University in 2011 and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University in 2016.
As Director, Matthew works with his team to demonstrate AFM and other Park Systems
metrology techniques to new and existing customers, pursue continuous improvement plans in
cooperation with customers and Park’s development team, and address technical support issues
at the various Park industrial customer sites throughout the Americas.

Ashton Enrriques Bio: Ashton graduated with a BS in MSE from Boise State University in
2022 and has worked for Park Systems since July 2022. While working under Paul Davis in the
SSL for 3.5 years, Ashton discovered his passion for metrology and especially AFM. While
collaborating with professors from the MSE department, across the university, and abroad, he
gained valuable experience with AFM instrumentation and lab techniques through various
projects. With the experience gained through the lab as a driving factor, in the spring of 2022 he
applied for a position at Park Systems and signed on before graduation. As an applications and
service engineer, Ashton handles applications development support for several key customers as
well as new tool installations and onsite service across the west.
