Dr. Clayton Fields completed his PhD this semester and was hooded during commencement. Dr. Fields contributed to small language models and multimodal language model evaluation.
Dr. Fields published several papers during his time as a PhD candidate:
- Renaissance: Investigating the Pretraining of Vision-Language Encoders (code)
- Exploring Transformers as Compact, Data-efficient Language Models
- Tiny Language Models Enriched with Multimodal Knowledge from Multiplex Networks
With another journal article and long conference paper under review.
Rista Baral successfully completed her Master’s Thesis and degree in Computer Science at Boise State. Rista did some amazing with relating to using language models to classify and generate robot emotions on the Cozmo and Misty II platforms. Her work is under review at a top robotics conference.
