The following is an email interview between the Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) and Nicholas Lloyd (NL), a 2025 Top Ten Scholar honoree from the College of Business and Economics.
CEP: “What does it mean to you to receive the Top Ten Scholar honor?”
NL: “I have attended the Top Ten Scholar award ceremony for the past few years and have drawn inspiration from past winners. For this reason, I am incredibly honored to be selected among so many incredible students. It truly means the world to me and I’m excited that I am given the rare opportunity to recognize those who have supported my journey in a formal event.”
CEP: “Talk about your time at Boise State. What clubs, sports, other involvements are you part of?
NL: “While at Boise State, I have co-founded the Investment Banking Club, co-founded the Special Olympics Club, served as president of Beta Alpha Psi (accounting and finance honors society), (vice president) of The Financial Management Association, (vice president) of Business Professionals of America, (vice president) of Beta Gamma Sigma (honors society), board member in the Student Philanthropy Board, and a member of the Honors College. Most notably is Beta Alpha Psi. Our team grew the organization to the largest non-Greek student club on campus. We were also awarded a campus award for our efforts to fundraise $40,000 to pack and distribute 100,000+ meals for food insecure families across Idaho.”
CEP: “What has been your favorite part about attending Boise State? What should high school students know about Boise State if they’re interested in attending?”
NL: “When weighing colleges, I believe the most important thing to consider is people. Boise is a community-heavy school. I’ve thrived in growing my communities and achieved many of my goals by helping others reach theirs. The small classroom environment also provides the opportunity for students to have much more personal relationships with professors who ultimately can help you take the next step academically or professionally. I am also a huge Bronco football fan. Most of my favorite memories are football related, like traveling to the Fiesta Bowl, to the Oregon game, watching Shakir play my freshman year, etc.”
CEP: “Talk about the concurrent enrollment classes you took in high school. How did those credits help you get a head start on your college career?”
NL: “Concurrent credit enabled me to graduate in four years as an honors double major with a minor. This degree option enabled me to explore my academic interests and greatly enhanced the professional opportunities available to me as a student. Starting in junior-level classes led me to get internships before my sophomore year and helped me land competitive roles like interning at NASA and Microsoft.”
CEP: “What are your current plans for after completing your undergraduate degree?”
NL: “After completing my degree, I will begin full-time working for Microsoft in the Finance Leadership Rotation Program where I’ll complete four six-month rotations in different business and finance functions. Long term I plan to pursue an MBA.”
