(Caption text: Calvin Loffer, suicide attempt survivor, shares his story of survival with teacher education students to help them understand the positive impact teachers can have on suicide prevention and recovery.)
[Nick Cutaia, Teacher Education candidate]: Calvin’s presentation today impacted me by letting me know, or just seeing that we’re not just there for academics, we’re there for social and emotional support, and just letting the student know that we’re always going to be there for them, keeping that professional balance in.
[Hanna Daum, Teacher Education candidate]: The training today made me think outside of a classroom perspective and allowed me to find resources to use and how I can approach a situation that might seem difficult, so I feel more prepared now on how to handle tough situations.
