Purpose

Develop, maintain, oversee and enhance all aspects of Department presence. Generate positive social media coverage and brand by promoting the Department or Unit and the people strategy by using the web, social media, and other materials.

Level Scope

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to write quickly, cleanly, format, edit and review content and photos for the web.
  • Experience using word processing and basic web content management materials.
  • Knowledge of web operations, including design, development, debugging, publishing and analytics
  • Knowledge and understanding of web application and database interaction.
  • Graphic design experience and proficiency
  • Ability to assess, strategies, prepare and communicate the best practices for usability
  • Ability to conceptualization, abstract thinking and logical reasoning
  • Familiarity with ADA compliance and major OS platforms and their browsers in order to test for and address display issues.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Web Specialist, Associate must:

  • Provide website planning, design, development, maintenance and enhancements to ensure compliance with University policies, standards, security protocols and applicable laws and in order to provide necessary, up-to-date, effective, and user friendly websites. Promote proper use of URLs to ensure portability. Generate and monitor hyperlink analysis reports. Back-up websites per OIT and University policy.
  • Create website development plans in consultation with the department with measurable goals, objectives and priorities, execute plans and report results.
  • Maintain a social media presence as needed
  • Perform quality control assessments and ensure ADA compliance.
  • Work closely with and attend meetings as requested with OIT members, department personnel and other University staff as needed to ensure consistency and compliance with University-wide and department web development, maintenance and enhancement objectives.
  • Design and Graphics: Serve as the primary contact for the creation and implementation of graphics “on brand” through multiple forms of media.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position is generally in a normal indoor office setting with minimal noise levels and may involve bending, moving, lifting, and carrying materials that weigh up to 15 pounds
