Purpose

This position is the central contact for all athletic department matters related to human resources administration oversight in order to ensure compliance with federal and University laws, policies and procedures.

Level Scope

Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls with a focus on policy and strategy implementation. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets and requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 5 years experience including 1 year of managerial experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of all NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of people with tact and diplomacy
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Working knowledge of various social media outlets
  • Skilled in policies, procedures, negotiations, public relation and finance
  • Ability to supervise, prioritize and organize

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60 % of Time Athletics Media Relations, Senior Manager will:

  • Develop and execute primary media relations program, building awareness of and support for the NCAA, by pitching and placing stories and other content in ways that reach and engage target audiences, including via the news media, the athletics website, social media platforms and other communication channels.
  • Advise student-athletes, athletic coaches, and leadership on effective media relations, media interviews and media training.
  • Enhance and protect the athletic department and universities reputation through effective issues and crisis management.
  • Identifies, develops and produces news releases, editorials, opinion pieces, advisories, experts lists, video stories, podcasts, social media campaigns and other rich news content that advances sport programs.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection
