Christine Bauer

After a national search, Christine Bauer has been selected as the executive director of eCampus and associate dean of Extended Studies. She replaces Janet Atkinson, who retired earlier this year.

“We have been looking for someone who will not only continue our positive momentum with the university’s online programming, but who will lead us as we pursue even bolder objectives in the online space,” said Mark Wheeler, dean of Extended Studies. “Christine is exactly the person we need to advance our online programming in ways that keep the university strong, relevant and innovative.”

Bauer has served as director of eCampus Learning and Instructional Design at Boise State University since 2012. Previously she was E-Learning director at Northwest Nazarene University (2007-12), curriculum director at Idaho Digital Learning Academy (2004-07), and held several other professional roles. She has a Ph.D. in Education, Instructional Design for Online Learning from Capella University, two master’s degrees from Boise State University, and two bachelor’s degrees from Whitworth College.

“I am delighted to serve as the next leader of the eCampus Center and to continue the momentum in strategically offering and expanding the number of online courses and programs to meet the educational needs of our on-campus and fully online students,” Bauer said.  “I look forward to collaborating with academic departments to find innovative ways to extend Boise State’s reach through high-quality, online programming in order to help citizens across our state obtain post-secondary degrees and certificates.”

The eCampus Center supports academic departments in developing and ensuring continuous quality of fully online courses and degrees.  Over the past five years the number of fully online programs available to students has risen to 38 and the number of online-only students has increased to over 3,000. Approximately 12,000 more students take at least one online course per year along with their face-to-face courses.
