Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Elisa Barney Smith has been appointed the 2019 student activities committee chair for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
In this capacity, Barney Smith will help shape policy, programs and resources for the more than 100,000 student members in 3,000 student branches at universities in more than 100 countries around the world. Barney Smith also will develop several initiatives to improve the student member experience around the world. IEEE is most known for its journals and IEEExplore publishing database. IEEE sponsors conferences world wide, and is also responsible for several standards for electrical devices.
