Register Now for Boise State Summer Camps

Summer is fast approaching and Boise State University is prepared to help keep kids and teens occupied and learning. A variety of day and residential camps encompass everything from sports to academics to the arts.

Following is a list of camps scheduled thus far. Please continue to check boisestate.edu for updates as they become available.

June 2-4

e-Camp. Students who are exiting 7th or 9th grade can use hands-on activities and projects involving problem solving and teamwork to explore careers in engineering, and computer science while living on campus in a college dormitory. Activities may include Engineering Hydraulics, Water Resources, Rock Design Build Launch, Prosthetic Hand, Tower Design Build, and more.  All food, housing and recreational activities are provided. Cost is $300 by April 30, (scholarships available based on need) $350 after May 1. Enrollment is limited to 50. Priority deadline is May 1. Contact laburusa@boisestate.edu for more information.

June 3-7

Low Brass Camp. Open to students entering grades 6-12, and graduating seniors. The Boise State Low Brass Camp provides an environment for trombone, euphonium, and tuba students to explore their instrument and develop the proper skills needed to excel. Students have the opportunity to break into focus groups based on their ability level. Topics addressed include chamber music, proper embouchure, breathing, tone production, musicality, ensemble playing, proper warm up techniques, instrument care, jazz improvisation, and performance art.

June 3-28

Athlete Performance Academy Session 1. 9-10:15 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Ages: 14-18. The Athlete Performance Academy (APA) relies on age-appropriate training to create a model-learning environment to help athletes excel, all while giving them tools to help improve their training for years beyond their time with us. The APA educates and trains high school athletes in the weight room. We focus on developing each athlete at their current level and teaching safe lifting technique while improving strength and agility throughout each session. Athletes will also gain the knowledge to create their own workouts to benefit them beyond the scope of their session with the APA. Each four-week session consists of 12 75-minute training bouts, which typically results in an average strength improvement of 28 percent over the course of the summer. $197 per session.

June 4-6

e-Camp. Grades 8-9. Students who are exiting 8th or 9th grade can use hands-on activities and projects involving problem solving and teamwork to explore careers in engineering and computer science while living on campus in a college dormitory. June 7-8

e-Girls Camp. e-Girls is a free overnight program for girls exiting 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. Enrollment is limited to 50 girls. Workshops led by Society of Women Engineers professionals and college students may include: Prosthetic Hand Design, Biomechanics, Transportation, Packaging and the Environment, Computer Programming with Scratch, Virtual Worlds with Alice, Physics of Rock Climbing, A World of Career Choices, and more. June 10-14

Boise State University Summer Chamber Music Camp. For young musicians playing band and orchestra instruments, piano or voice who will be in grades 7-12 for the 2019-20 school year. The camp runs approximately 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. Camp tuition is $250. On-site housing, meal ticket and private lesson options are available at additional cost. The camp curriculum includes small and large ensembles, music theory, camp choir, musical theatre, music appreciation, as well as master classes in string, woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, voice, jazz improvisation and more. Returning this year by popular demand is “Total Percussion,” providing instruction on keyboard percussion, snare drumming, set playing, marching band percussion and percussion ensemble performance for students with at least one year of percussion playing experience. The popular “Chamber Camp Idol” skit and talent extravaganza will be performed for family and friends on Thursday night. A “Camp Finale” concert is presented on Friday evening, where campers showcase what they have been working on over the week, and camper awards are presented. There is no admission charge for the finale concert.

June 10-28

Kinesiology Youth Sports Program. Participants ages 5-7 can take classes which include swimming, beginning tumbling, super skill games, munch and playing and under 8 tennis and basketball. For ages 8-14, classes including mountain biking, swimming, outdoor adventure, basketball, bowling, rock climbing, racket skills and more are offered. Classes are offered at various times between 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $88 for 50 minute classes, three weeks, Monday-Friday, and $170 for two-hour classes (mountain biking and and outdoor adventure) Monday-Friday. June 10 – July 26

Boise State’s Summer Academy Program. Except 1st week of July, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Ages 6-15. $35-$45 per day. In the Moving and Thinking Program, children entering grades 2-6 engage in a fun, active learning curriculum, led by certified classroom teachers and college students – features games and activities in math, physical education, arts, coding and science. In the Bicycle Adventure Program, children entering grades 7-9 embark on daily bicycle explorations of the outdoors, local recreation and educational opportunities, and community service; features life skills such as teamwork, friendship, goals and character. Developed and facilitated by the Center for School Improvement and Policy Studies in the College of Education.

June 17-19

Boise State Basketball Individual Camp – Session 1. Any and all boys pre-k of age through high school are eligible, including high school graduates. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable experience that will benefit each camper in many ways. Individual instruction will be provided on the basis of shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, rebounding and team play. Each camper will participate in competitive games for his skill level and have the opportunity to compete within his age group. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost $150. June 17-21

GenCyber Cybersecurity Summer Camp for Idaho High School Students (Girls Only). Grades 9-12. Free registration (application required). Accepted participants will receive free meals during the camp and a free Raspberry Pi-topCEED Toolkit. Underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply. Computer Science faculty and staff will introduce and cement knowledge of cybersecurity first principles, increase the curiosity of the participants about the field of cybersecurity, encourage participants to seek further education in cybersecurity and motivate participants to seek a career in cybersecurity. The camp will be held in the new computer science facility in downtown Boise (Clearwater Building, City Center Plaza).

June 17-29

Summer DanceFest. Summer DanceFest offers the highest quality training for today’s dancer during two weeks of intensive training in ballet, pointe, men’s class, pas de deux, jazz and modern. It is the place to gain technique, core, strength, versatility of style and performing experience. The training includes daily classes and rehearsals with cutting-edge choreographers, culminating in two performances for dancers age 12 and older with intermediate to advanced technique. Ages 12 and older, by audition. Cost $150-$520 based on number of classes.

June 20-24

Passion Flute X. Four innovative teachers and virtuosic performing artists return to present an expanded 5-day, high-energy “Passion Flute X” Seminar. Enhance your individual skills through intensive workshops and master classes. Explore your artistic personality through creative foundations and fundamentals, morning warm-ups, repertoire development, yoga and meditation, stage presentation, and flute choir/ensembles.

June 24-25

July 15-17

Aug. 5-9

Electrical Circuits (Week 1). For upcoming juniors and seniors. Basic circuits and tools (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and soldering tools) will be introduced. Projects include an audio amplifier and bioengineering a heartbeat detector circuit. Students will work with Brian Higgins and his assistants designing and building these circuits. A basic toolset would become property of the students after they leave allowing them to continue exploring after the class. Cost $75/week.

Aug. 8-9

High Intensity Basketball Camp – Session 2 (Boys).Any and all boys pre-k of age through high school are eligible, including high school graduates. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable experience that will benefit each camper in many ways. Aug. 10

Boise State Elite Basketball Camp. High school aged boys, freshmen to recent grad. For the best of the best high school campers from all over the west to compete in skill work and 5 on 5 competitions in front of Boise State Coaches. 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Cost – $75.

Aug. 12-16

Electrical Circuits (Week 2). For upcoming juniors and seniors. A basic toolset will be introduced consisting of an entire Linux embedded system development kit that students would use and then take home and keep. The week will consist of helping students to be successful making their microprocessor demo boards do useful things such as drive LEDs and motors, control simple robots, and finally interface with the previous’ class heartbeat detector to visually display a pulse rate. Students will get to keep the demo board and tools from the class to continue their exploration. Cost $75/week.
