Brand, Sass and Brascia Publish Article on ‘Active Learning’ Through Community Outreach

Geoscience associate professor Brittany Brand, Kara Brascia, director of the Service-Learning Program, and Margaret Sass, a lecturer in multidisciplinary studies and applied science, recently published an article titled “Active learning through community outreach: A case study of service-learning in a natural hazard, vulnerability and risk class” in the Higher Learning Research Communications Journal.

An excerpt from the article’s abstracts reads: “This article provides a case study of how incorporating service-learning through a community outreach project can increase student engagement, enhance the depth of understanding of a given topic, build communication and teamwork skills and contribute meaningfully to the students’ community.”
