Employees are invited to join the spring 2020 Fitness Challenge to improve their health and fitness

Students in the Department of Kinesiology invite faculty and staff to participate in the spring 2020 Fitness Challenge. The Fitness Challenge is an opportunity for faculty and staff to improve their health for the upcoming year, achieve their exercise and physical activity goals, and give students an outstanding experiential learning opportunity.

The challenge, which begins Jan. 27, requires faculty and staff to commit as “clients” to ten weeks of personal training led by students in the Kinesiology 432 Conditioning Principles course. Clients and student personal trainers will agree to meet a minimum of two times per week for 10 weeks. Clients will train in the Kinesiology Annex weight room; locker rooms will be available. The sessions will occur between 7-9 a.m., 12-1 p.m., and 4-6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The students will develop and guide their clients through an exercise routine designed to help participants meet their health and fitness goals. Due to the high response to this program and limited number of student trainers, participants will be enrolled on a first come, first-served basis.

Participants will be required to complete a health history questionnaire before training begins. The following data will be recorded before and after the 10-week course: height, weight, body mass index, resting heart rate and blood pressure as well as appropriate performance measures like speed, power and strength. The clients that make the most significant improvements across all measures will be awarded prizes, as will their personal trainers.

Fitness Challenge participant donations increased the kinesiology department scholarship fund by more than $7,500 last year.

Please follow this registration link to sign up. Participants and personal trainers will receive an email introduction and training schedule from a graduate student supervisor.
