New state order guarantees paid leave for eligible new parents at Boise State

Idaho Governor Brad Little recently signed the Families First Act, which will affect Boise State University’s parental leave policy. As of July 1, eligible Boise State employees will be eligible for eight weeks of paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child. The benefit will apply to both mothers and fathers employed by all executive branch agencies in Idaho, including Boise State.

The new benefit ensures new parents can take eight weeks of paid leave without using their accrued sick or vacation hours, as previously expected.

Boise State’s Human Resources (HR) department currently is updating its policies to reflect the Families First Act, with guidance from the Idaho State Division of Human Resources.
