University faculty and staff must use VPN when connecting to Boise State systems and services

Boise State requires faculty and staff (including student employees) to use Boise State’s VPN service when connecting remotely to university systems, services and resources.

Each employee is responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of Boise State’s data while working remotely.

This means when accessing myBoiseState, Boise State Gmail, Blackboard, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, and other systems to do university work, everyone must first launch the Cisco AnyConnect (Boise State) VPN client and authenticate with their university username and password.

Connecting to Boise State’s VPN provides an encrypted, secure virtual seat on the university’s network, as though an employee is sitting in front of their computer at work. Whether browsing the web, clicking on email attachments, or responding to texts, everyone is encouraged to practice the same safe computing habits and vigilance as they would while on the university campus.

Boise State’s Remote Access Policy provides detailed information about what is (and isn’t) allowed while using VPN.

All faculty and staff (including active student employees) have access to the Boise State VPN service. Information about installing and using VPN is available on the Office of Information Technology’s website:
