Free Boise State tax preparation service now is offered online

After being put on hold to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the Boise State University Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is back up and running and has been approved by the IRS to offer services remotely. Volunteer community members, accountancy students and alumni are ready to help prepare tax returns.

Individuals who make $56,000 annually or less may request help by emailing VITAtaxhelp@boisestate.edu. From there, a VITA program member will be in contact within 48 hours to determine the best way to provide assistance. Participants also will receive a survey to determine their tax needs and the technology (computer, camera) they have available and are comfortable using.

Tax assistance services will be available through June 15, 2020.

The Idaho state tax return deadline is June 15, 2020. The federal tax return deadline is July 15, 2020, but many taxpayers must finish their federal return prior to filing their Idaho return.
