The Idaho Film Collection supports scholarly research and creative activities in film, photography and media studies as these relate to and/or benefit Idaho and the Northwest. The organization also supports the activities of filmmakers, photographers and scholars in related fields, as well as public screenings, exhibitions and festivals.
The collection is accepting grant proposals in two categories: faculty/independent filmmakers/photographers and students.
For faculty/independent filmmakers/photographers
Project description: Please provide a detailed one- to two-page description of the project and how it relates to the mission of Idaho Film Collection. The proposal must include a projected timeline for completion and a description of anticipated outcomes.
Budget: Please provide a detailed itemized one-page budget for the proposed project, including other anticipated sources of funding, and describe how IFC can best support this work. Typically, grants range from $500-$1,500.
Deadline: Please send a project description and itemized budget to Mariah Devereux Herbeck at devereuxherbeck@boisestate.edu by Oct. 15. Proposals will be reviewed as expeditiously as possible with notification provided usually within two weeks.
For students
The collection is accepting applications from current Boise State students for small film and photography grants. Film, experimental video/film and photography projects are all eligible. A maximum of $500 can be requested.
Project description: A student’s project will be considered in any stage of the creative process though it should be clearly developed. Interested students should send a one- to two-page description of their project, including other anticipated sources of funding, and itemized budget to Herbeck at devereuxherbeck@boisestate.edu by Oct. 15.
A project description should communicate the following:
- Summary of the film, video or photo project (with clear logline for film projects)
- Description of the intended audience
- List of student participants, if any.
- Timeline for completion
- Distribution or exhibition plans
- For photographers: 10-15 samples of work, roughly 5×7 at 300 dpi to be shared via Google Drive.
- For video/ filmmakers: Submit work samples such as two to three previous examples of film/ video work (three minutes max excerpts submitted via Vimeo or Youtube links) or workscript, sample of the film and/or storyboard.
- A curriculum vitae
- Itemized budget
Students are strongly encouraged to review their proposal and budget with their film/photography instructor(s) before submitting their documents. A student’s project will be considered in any stage of the creative process, although it should be clearly developed.
