Oe receives grant funding for suicide prevention

Associate Dean of Students Lauren Oe received a three-year, $304,000 grant to implement a comprehensive campus suicide prevention program at Boise State. The grant is funded through the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act within the Center for Mental Health Services and is designed to help colleges and universities build capacity and infrastructure to support expanded wellness promotion, including making it easier for students to seek help.

The grant will fund work to create a comprehensive student mental health strategic plan that aligns with and helps carryout key objectives within the University Strategic Plan. Specific efforts under the grant focus on increasing training for the campus community about suicide warning signs and building confidence and skills to help a student in crisis. Michelle Tassinari, outreach and prevention case manager, will be responsible for implementing the key programs and services outlined in the grant.
