Eloise Garmendia Bieter Chair in Basque Studies lecture series

The Department of World Languages, Basque Studies Minor is proud to announce the 2022 Boise State University Eloise Garmendia Bieter Chair in Basque Studies lecture series. This year’s chair is Xabier Irujo, director of the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno.

  • An Idahoan Named Egurtxiki: The man who learned Euskara to write about the bombing of Gernika

William Smallwood “Egurtxiki” conducted more than one hundred clandestine interviews among survivors of the bombing of Gernika in the spring of 1972 and wrote, “The Day Guernica Was Bombed: A Story Told by Witnesses and Survivors.” He died in December, 2021 in Arizona.
