The Treasure Valley Family YMCA honored School of Nursing Associate Professor Max Veltman with the Service to Youth Award at the organization’s annual meeting.

With a shared love of Idaho youth and the outdoors, Veltman began volunteering with the Treasure Valley Family YMCA’s summer camp at Horsethief Reservoir in 2008. In 2020, he stepped into the interim medical director role, and he now also serves on the camp’s advisory board.

“It is no understatement to say that Max is responsible for recruiting hundreds of volunteer nurses for camp. When the world throws a pandemic at you, Max is who you want on your team. Max worked tirelessly to make sure our medical procedures were in line and campers were safe as we kept our doors open through the thick of a global pandemic,” the Y Camp at Horsethief Reservoir email newsletter said.
