Tomás Baiza, director of the Advising and Academic Support Center, was recently published in The New River, the multimedia arts and literature journal of Virginia Tech University. Baiza’s prose poems, “We Of Mexican Mothers” and “Note On The Office Fridge” both address identity among those of Mexican heritage, each from a distinct perspective.
“In these particular works, I employ a blend of autobiography and fiction to explore what it means to be ‘us’, challenging the reader to acknowledge that we are not representatives of a monolithic culture, and that there is no such thing as a single unifying experience for Chicanos,” Baiza said.
