Shad Jessen, executive director of university web strategy, support and engagement in the Office of Information Technology, presented “Elevating the Digital Campus: How Search & AI Are Transforming Higher Ed: Webinar” in a May 6 global webinar sponsored by Cludo.
Co-presenting with John Bourne of the University of Bristol, Jessen discussed Boise State’s approach to effective search management.
Boise State manages an expansive web environment with oversight from a relatively small team. To streamline this complexity, the university leverages Cludo’s suite of tools to help the team swiftly respond to unexpected or ineffective search results to ensure visitors can find accurate and useful information.
Jessen also discussed how Boise State is also piloting AI-powered search and chat features, and talked about the differences between traditional search focused on keywords and algorithms as opposed to optimizing content for natural language search to emphasize relationships between topics, people and entities.
