Zeynep Hansen selected as Interim Provost for Boise State University

Zeynep Hansen will serve as Boise State’s Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs while the university conducts a national search.

Hansen has served as vice provost for academic planning and institutional effectiveness since 2019. She serves as a liaison with the Idaho State Board of Education and accreditation liaison officer with the Northwest Commission on Universities and Colleges. She joined Boise State in 2007 and has previously served as an associate dean in the College of Business and Economics, chair of the Department of Economics, a professor of economics, and a research associate. 

“Dr. Hansen is uniquely qualified to lead Academic Affairs during this critical moment,” said Interim President Jeremiah Shinn. “She is not only a highly respected faculty member and academic leader, but also one of our most trusted and admired colleagues. I am confident that her voice and wisdom will be invaluable to our leadership team and the broader university community.”

Hansen will assume the interim provost role on July 21, 2025. 

“I am honored to serve as Boise State’s interim provost and help continue the tremendous progress we have made in serving our students effectively and efficiently,” said Hansen. “I look forward to working together with faculty, staff and the leadership team to keep Boise State’s mission moving forward.

Hansen earned a Bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Boise State, a Master’s and a Ph.D. in economics from University of Arizona.

Provost John Buckwalter is joining University of Central Florida as provostand executive vice president for academic affairs.

“I’m grateful to John for his leadership at Boise State during the past five years,” Shinn said. “John is an exceptional colleague and a good friend whose kindness, dedication, and genuine care for students and faculty helped define an important era at Boise State. We wish him all the best in his new role as Provost at the University of Central Florida.”
