The Greenbelt, which largely represents the campus’ northern boundary, is one of the primary means of non-vehicular transportation to and through campus. It receives well over a million walking, biking and micro-mobility trips each year.
The university, via its partnership with the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS), was allocated federal funds to improve the pathway between Theatre Lane and Broadway Avenue. This section is narrower than current Greenbelt standards, and consists of asphalt instead of the desired concrete. The project will widen the Greenbelt, replace a series of wooden bollards with a proper landscape strip and add marked crosswalks at high-traffic areas.
Boise State is working closely with the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council, KPFF Consulting Engineers and the City of Boise to implement the project – currently in the design and engineering phase, with construction anticipated to start during spring 2026.
