Tim Thornes, associate professor of linguistics in the department of English, recently returned from Eugene, Oregon, where he served as instructor of a course on intermediate linguistics for the Northwest Indian Language Summer Institute at the University of Oregon. The summer institute supports elders, teachers, students and activists in indigenous language revitalization and preservation efforts by offering workshops in linguistics, teaching methods and materials development as well as courses focused on specific languages of the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
