Faculty invited to participate in APLU-funded faculty learning community

The Center for Teaching and Learning is accepting applications for the Western Cluster- Designing for Student Success (WCDSS) faculty learning community (FLC). This is a cross-institutional community, where a group of faculty across six western universities will spend some time in summer 2021 exploring strategies that support student success.

The funding for this program has been provided by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) through a competitive “Powered-by-Publics” seed funding program.

The purpose of the WCDSS FLC is to explore how intentional course design, focused on student success, can be used to support students who might consider leaving the university without achieving their educational objectives. The experience is designed to help faculty add to what they are already doing to support students.

Selected participants will virtually attend four two-hour cohort meetings during summer 2021 (Wednesday, May 19, Friday, May 21, Monday, May 24, and Wednesday May 26). Meetings will involve peer discussions on topics like identification of opportunity gaps among students and what causes them, course design strategies for addressing disparities in performance, and developing effective communication practices/interventions strategies. A modest amount of reading is involved as preparation for each meeting.

Participation incentives include a $500 per person (to be used for professional development) stipend.
