Gail Shuck, a professor of English, and Kay M. Losey, a professor of writing at Grand Valley State University, have published an edited collection, Plurilingual Pedagogies for Multilingual Writing Classrooms: Embracing the Rich Communicative Resources of U.S. Students. Intended for high school and college writing teachers, this book highlights practical strategies for incorporating students’ (and instructors’) multilingual expertise and communicative flexibility into teaching practices in classrooms and throughout programs.
Shuck has also written a chapter in this volume, “Stealth” Faculty Development in Adopting Plurilingual Dispositions: Collaboration on a Student Conference on Language, which describes the transformations in teaching approaches by faculty whose multilingual first-year writing students hold the bi-annual Conference on Language, Identity, and Culture, which Shuck coordinates. The next edition of the conference will be held on Nov. 18.
