The Boise State Trumpet Ensemble in Salt Lake City for the International Trumpet Guild Conference

The Boise State Trumpet Ensemble performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference hosted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on May 30, 2025. The ensemble was invited through a competitive audition process to perform “Infinite Ascent” by Eric Morales. It is only the second performance at this hallmark event in the professional brass community for the Boise State trumpet studio.

The conference also featured a collaborative performance for music composition major, Payton Harrison, with the inaugural Collegiate Trumpet Choir. Music education major, Ryan Robertson, was honored during the conference awards banquet with a conference scholarship having been selected through a solo performance contest.

Nine Boise State students attended numerous concerts, masterclasses and educational clinics presented by world class artists. The presenters included international soloists, leading orchestra and military band members, jazz/commercial musicians and university/conservatory professors. Students participated in experiential clinics providing them with strategies to use AI, digital audio workstations and other technology aids in music practice and pedagogy. They attended research poster sessions, workshops on career development aligning specific skills to marketplace needs and daily trade show exhibits providing access to numerous companies specializing in instruments, music publishing and trumpet accessories.

The Boise State trumpet studio is led by Zach Buie and Derek Ganong.
