Kane presents at Latin American studies conference

Adrian Kane, professor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages, recently presented his research at the Latin American Studies Association International Congress. His presentation, “Trauma, Historical Memory, and U.S. Central American Identity in the Fiction of Francisco Goldman,” argues that the narration of trauma in Goldman’s novel “Monkey Boy” is central to the construction of Central American historical memory and to the intersectional nature of the protagonist’s experience as a U.S. Central American. He suggests that the retelling of Central American history is a fundamental component of the development of U.S. Central American identities, thus lending heightened visibility and intelligibility to U.S. Central Americans and their contributions to American society.
