Sam Ehrlich, assistant professor of legal studies in the Department of Management, was quoted in a recent article on college sports published by The Athletic, the New York Times’ sports news website.
The article, “Trump signs executive order aimed at bringing order to college sports: Here’s what it means,” discusses an executive order President Trump signed to address the employment status of college athletes and antitrust issues. The order also prohibits third-party “pay-for-play” payments while allowing fair-market value endorsements.
Ehrlich added context to the discussion in the article, crediting the Trump administration for not overreaching with the executive order by attempting to grant an antitrust exemption or pass a law on its own. He also expressed fascination from both a political and legal perspective about how much of the order can actually be enforced.
