Clinical Assistant Professor
Gary W. Royals, RN, BSN, MS, is a seasoned nursing professional with over 25 years of diverse and progressive experience across quite a few facets of nursing practice and healthcare leadership. His clinical foundation includes work as a staff nurse in intensive care, adult inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, child and adolescent inpatient and residential program psychiatry, and home health care. These roles provided him with a comprehensive and compassionate understanding of patient care across the lifespan and across healthcare delivery settings.
Gary has also held numerous leadership and administrative positions throughout his career, demonstrating a consistent commitment to improving healthcare delivery, advocating for patients and nursing staff, and supporting interdisciplinary teams. His leadership roles have included: Nurse Manager in an adolescent psychiatric residential program, Director of Nurses for both home health and adult inpatient psychiatry, and as Corporate Director of Central Supply for five hospitals owned by a single hospital corporation. His operational expertise expanded further when he served as administrator for a rural medical-surgical hospital and an inpatient psychiatric hospital, where he oversaw clinical quality, regulatory compliance, professional relationships and partnerships as well as, staff development.
A graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Gary went on to earn a Master of Science in Wellness from the University of Mississippi, reflecting his dedication to holistic and preventive healthcare. He is a proud member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, underscoring his professional integrity and academic excellence.
Throughout his career, Gary W. Royals has been recognized for his collaborative leadership, clinical insight, and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. His wide-ranging experience uniquely positions him as a respected leader and advocate in the field of nursing.
Gary moved to Boise in 2021 and lives with his spouse and his Havanese dog Maggie Mae. Gary started to work at BSU in the Fall 2023 as an Adjunct Faculty at the VA and thoroughly enjoys being a part of the BSU and SON family. Go Broncos!!!
