National Social Work Month 2024: “Empowering Social Workers!”

Now in its 40th year, National Social Work Month 2024 highlights the growing importance of empowering social workers. This month, the National Association of Social Workers, the country’s most prominent social work association, will raise awareness of the social work profession and highlight the need for the government, regulators and employers to work to improve pay for social workers as a way of investing in addressing challenging social issues.

To highlight the importance of National Social Work Month and the essential contributions of social workers, new students can apply to Boise State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Online for free with an application fee waiver during March. Contact a student success coach to get started!

Empowering Social Workers: Bridging the Gap for a Growing Need

In the face of rising societal challenges like homelessness, opioid addiction and a surge in suicides, the role of social workers has never been more crucial. As the demand for their vital skills continues to grow, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) highlights the imperative need to empower and support these dedicated professionals.

Did you know that by 2030, there will be more than 782,000 social workers in the United States? This makes social work one of the fastest-growing professions in the United States. This surge in demand emphasizes the critical need for widespread support, legislative initiatives and enhanced pay for social workers to meet the challenges posed by complex societal issues.

The Heart of Social Work: A Profession on the Rise

Boise State University’s Master of Social Work Online is designed to train and empower students as advocates for underrepresented, oppressed and vulnerable populations from diverse backgrounds, nurturing a steadfast commitment to equality and justice. Professionals who earn an MSW can skillfully apply their training in various specialized settings within the field, such as schools, medical facilities or child welfare. The degree’s versatility opens doors to providing services within broader contexts, extending to social policy or legislative initiatives. This adaptability underscores the program’s commitment to producing well-rounded social work professionals capable of making meaningful contributions across diverse sectors.

As the National Association of Social Workers affirmed, “They go through years of education, training, and supervision to do the delicate but important work of meeting people where they are and helping them achieve their goals.”

In unity, we cultivate a community of social work practitioners whose passion resonates in every corner, creating ripples of positive change that uplift the voices of the unheard and champion the cause of equality.
