VESi Professional Education Overview

The Boise State College of Education in partnership with Virtual Education Software, inc (VESi) offers online courses for educators that are convenient, flexible, and teach relevant and applicable content.

VESi professional education courses are designed to teach techniques and strategies for use in school and classroom settings. Although designed with practicing teachers in mind, many other fields such as social services, business, health, and etc. also find course content relevant. Each course consists of reading and exams; courses taken for academic credit also include graded writing assignments.

Characteristics of VESi Courses

  • All course content is delivered online.
  • No in-person meeting requirements.
  • Offered as professional development credit (no academic credit).
    • Graded Pass/Fail
    • Appear on your transcript with a 553 course number
    • Cannot be changed to academic credit or applied towards a degree
  • Offered as undergraduate academic credit.
    • Upper division
    • Graded on an A+ – F scale
    • Appear on your transcript with a 494 course number
    • Can be applied towards a degree
  • Offered as graduate academic credit.
    • Graded on an A+ – F scale
    • Appear on your transcript with a 594 course number
    • Can be applied towards a degree

Earning academic elective credit toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree? Check with your academic advisor to learn how credits from these classes can be used. Earning academic credit to be used towards teacher recertification? Check with your certifying agency to determine that these credits will meet your district’s and/or state requirements. Courses taken for academic credit cannot be changed to professional education credit.

To enroll in a VESi course


  • Reliable, high-speed broadband Internet connection, Printer, and recent version of Internet browser.
  • Access BroncoMail to receive information related to the course. You must also be comfortable contacting the instructor independently with questions or problems via email or telephone.
  • Time commitment of at least 40 hours for a 2-credit course, or 60 hours for a 3-credit course.
  • To receive full credit for the course you must complete all course modules, exams, and submit any final assignments by specified deadlines.
    Certificate of completion and assignments are due one week prior to the end of the session.

Students taking a VESi course for academic credit are required to submit written assignments:

  • Each chapter includes a brief essay (minimum of 500 words long) assignment.
  • There are three journal article written reviews.
