Welcome to the Critical Human Resource Development (CHRD) Lab!
The CHRD Lab is a virtual research space dedicated to advancing critical scholarship and practice in Training & Development, Organizational Development, Career Development, Leadership Development, and Learning & Development. Our work is grounded in a critical lens that examines how identity and power dynamics shape experiences within organizations and communities. Participation in the research work of the lab is voluntary and is designed to enrich the learning beyond coursework in the Program of Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning.
Mission
The CHRD Lab is committed to better understanding how organizational settings can support everyone in the workplace by producing research that examines workplace issues through advocates for critical, intersectional approaches to workplace issues.
Vision
The CHRD Lab envisions a future where organizations regularly consider ways to create a work environment that is fair to everyone in the workplace and considers the ways in which systems, policies, and practices interact with availability of resources and opportunities, as well as the complex intersections of social identities and issues in the environment. We strive to lead through impactful research, secure external funding, cultivate interdisciplinary partnerships, and bridge the divide between academic scholarship and real-world practice.
What We Do
We engage in a variety of research projects that contribute to the advancement of CHRD across the following key areas:
- CHRD Theory Development: Providing transformative frameworks for Training & Development, Organizational Development, Career Development, Leadership Development, and Learning & Development.
- CHRD Practice Development: Empowering critical practitioners and inclusive leaders by spotlighting their meaningful contributions.
- CHRD Methodology Development: Driving innovative intersectional research with robust methodological rigor—advanced quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods.
- CHRD Pedagogy Development: Exploring educational methods to create safer, inclusive learning environments that foster critical, intersectional consciousness.
