OPWL Testimonial: Ralonda Simmons, class of 2019

Ralonda Simmons portrait

HR Learning and Design Specialist at Denver Public Schools

I am grateful for the circumstances that led me to enroll in the Master of Science in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL). Before I decided to apply, and after doing a lot of research on ID programs, I had an English degree but had a hard time finding a meaningful job. At that point, I decided to join in due to my fascination with learning, graphic design, and the possibilities I saw to make a difference in the world.

When I started the program, I was overwhelmed; I didn’t have much experience, yet due to the learning environment full of those with varying levels of experience, I often felt intimidated. However, intimidation wasn’t enough to abate my curiosity. There were times I astounded myself with what I was able to accomplish during my studies.

With the help of Jo Ann Fenner, Lesa Becker, and all of the professors I had, I was able to graduate in May of 2019 with confidence in myself as a human performance practitioner. Their patience, responsiveness, and knowledge helped me to not only complete the program but to excel and soar to heights I never imagined. Even after graduation, Ms. Fenner provided me with career coaching so that I could go out into the workforce confidently. I can’t say enough about how staff goes above and beyond to help students succeed.

If you want to find a program that is full of knowledgeable teachers and mentors, a well-rounded curriculum, and a community of continuous learning, apply to the OPWL program. You might also have the opportunity to surprise yourself with what you can accomplish.
