Art Foundations

As a preparation for a BA/BFA major in Studio Art, Art History, Graphic Design, Illustration,or Art Education, Art Foundations courses incorporate a rigorous introduction to making, thinking and writing about art and design and visual culture. The following Art Foundations courses are to be taken during the first year of study and are pre-requisites for most other Art Department courses:

ART 107 Art Foundations I
ART 108 Art Foundations II
ART 109 Foundations Drawing
ARTHIST 101 Survey of Western Art I
ARTHIST 102 Survey of Western Art II

ART 107 Art Foundations I (3 credits) ; Introduction to visual language through the examination of structures in art and culture. Develop strategies for interpreting an constructing effective two-dimensional images. (From course catalog)

ART 108 Art Foundations II (3 credits); Exploration of various three-dimensional design methods and their relationship to the cultural context and conceptualization of art objects. (From course catalog)
