Amplification

Second Step:

The second step in the molecular process is amplification, following these techniques:

• Take a diluted portion of the DNA sample and add Taq polymerase, primers and other chemicals (depending on problems with amplification that may be anticipated) to make the master mix
• This mixture is distributed to strip tubes that will fit into the thermocycler machine
• The samples are then placed into the thermocycler with a preset program, which will vary depending on the nature of the primers, gene of interest, etc.
