Job Description

RivHab is seeking a talented and motivated engineer or surveyor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have background in water resources engineering, technical expertise, and an understanding of aquatic ecology and the physiological and behavioral characteristics of anadromous and resident fish species related to the design of hydraulic structures for fish passage and habitat. The candidate should have strong writing ability and experience with hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, mapping software, survey equipment, and Civil 3D.

Work Environment

The work will be performed at a variety of locations including our Eagle office, remote work stations, and field locations near streams. In some situations, the employee may be required to wear a hard hat, safety vest, and safety shoes. Field work includes exposure to all types of weather, slippery rocks or docks, trails, irregular terrain, insects, poison oak, rough and/or fast-moving water and cold-water temperatures.

Depending on job position and experience level, remote work may be possible.

Essential Duties

Responsibilities include:

Stream Restoration and Fish Habitat –

  • Knowledge or willingness to learn natural process design, geomorphology, influence of groundwater and hyporheic zones, spring creek systems, and understanding of sediment transport.
  • Fisheries science and habitat needs.
  • Water efficiency, water resources, hydraulic structure development.
  • Prepare plans, specifications and cost estimates for fish habitat improvements including in-stream wood structures, spring creek restoration, lateral/side channel rearing habitat, floodplain inundation, fish ladders, and barriers.
  • Evaluate barriers to fish migration and develop and direct the implementation of corrective measures.

Field Investigations and Surveys –

  • Assist in a wide range of complex field investigations and activities including site surveys, stream assessments, wetland water storage, piezometer studies, fishery project implementation and stream restoration projects.
  • Conduct topographic and bathymetric field studies to complete site terrain models, grading plans, hydraulic analyses (e.g., project design, planning and verification of field conditions).
  • Establish survey control at project sites.
  • UAV surveys, photogrammetry and LiDAR data collection via drone.
  • Post-processing survey data to produce terrain models.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid state driver’s license
  • At least 3 years of relevant, full time work experience
  • B.S. in Civil, Environmental or Hydraulic Engineering, Land Surveying or Remote Sensing
  • Idaho Professional Engineering License (or the ability to obtain a license within the next two years)
  • Working knowledge of HEC-RAS and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Coursework or experience in open channel flow, hydraulic structures, and hydrology
  • Topographic field surveying experience

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • UAV remote pilot license, or drone flying experience.
  • Environmental permitting (ESA, NEPA, SHPO, and CGP compliance).

Our team works closely with private landowners, state and federal agencies, tribes, local communities, and non-profits to assist in habitat assessments, engineering design, drafting, modeling, permitting, and construction. With expanded capabilities of capturing and processing LiDAR data in-house, our terrain modelers generate precise grading plans and professional mapping, allowing us to expand our mapping and surveying capabilities.
