Sustainability Expert John Bernardo Joins the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University

The College of Business and Economics (COBE) at Boise State University is pleased to announce the appointment of John Bernardo as executive in residence. Bernardo is the sustainability strategist at Idaho Power and a national expert on sustainability. Bernardo has been a long time contributor to COBE as a guest lecturer and presenter in undergraduate and graduate classes, faculty development workshops and events for community stakeholders. Bernardo has also served as an advisor to the college’s Responsible Business Initiative (RBI) and was a key advisor to the student team that produced the college’s first Sustainability Report during the 2014­2015 academic year.

As an executive in residence, Bernardo will serve as a resource for COBE faculty and students on all aspects of responsible business, including sustainable operations and corporate social responsibility. In addition, he will lead the College’s Responsible Business Initiative during the fall semester. RBI’s mission is to to catalyze leaders to create sustainable value for business and society and the initiative is sponsored by the College of Business and Economics and Wells Fargo.

Bernardo holds two degrees from The Pennsylvania State University (environmental resource management and biology) and a master of education in science education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Idaho Power he established Sustainable Innovations LLC, a sustainability consulting firm assisting businesses in retail, healthcare and packaging, and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, in implementing sustainability into company operations. Some past achievements include performing business efficiency and sustainability at Albertson’s and developing a county­-based business assistance program in Arizona.
