The Gem State Business and Accounting Conference provides the latest updates and perspectives on a variety of accounting, audit, tax and reporting matters that impact both private and public companies. Jeff Kummer

Jeff Kummer

Managing Director, Tax Policy, Washington National Tax, Deloitte Tax LLP

Jeff has over 20 years of experience in the tax policy arena and is currently responsible for communicating emerging tax developments in the U.S. Congress, the Internal Revenue Service and Treasury Department, and the federal courts to the Firm and its clients. Jeff oversees the content development of Tax News & Views as well as thought leadership publications on issues such as the U.S. deficit and fundamental tax reform.

His Capitol Hill experience includes working on tax and budget issues for former U.S. Senator and Senate Finance Committee member Steve Symms, R-Idaho.

Jeff holds a BS in Political Science from the University of Idaho and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University.

Daniel J. Dustin, CPA

Daniel Dustin, CPA, joined NASBA on January 1, 2012, as vice president of state board relations. In this role, Mr. Dustin serves as an advocate for State Boards of Accountancy and finds new ways and opportunities to provide support and service to NASBA’s member boards. Mr. Dustin serves as liaison to several NASBA committees including the Education, Ethics, Peer Review Compliance, and Uniform Accountancy Act committees. 

Prior to joining NASBA, Mr. Dustin served as executive secretary of the New York State Board for Public Accountancy.  As executive secretary, Mr. Dustin was responsible for professional licensing, practice and conduct, including professional discipline of Certified Public Accountants and Public Accountants in New York. A key point person in the regulatory process, Mr. Dustin monitored the evolution of professional practice at national and state levels and developed and drafted proposed legislation and amendments to New York State accountancy rules and regulations.

Joseph Maslott, CPA

Joseph Maslott, CPA, is the Associate Director – Content Management with the AICPA Examinations team since 2006. Mr. Maslott has over 20 years of accounting experience and began his career at PwC.  He then joined AT&T World Headquarters and E*TRADE Financial in management positions in accounting. As a lead CPA on the AICPA Examinations team, he has served in various roles including Staff Liaison for the AUD subcommittee and business owner of Simulation Development for all sections of the Exam.  Currently, Mr. Maslott is the staff lead of the CPA Evolution practice analysis, a research project designed to document the scope of entry-level practice as well as serve as the foundation for the Exam’s validity and legal defensibility.

Sean Denney

Senior Manager, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Sean Denney is a Senior Manager for the Boise Practice. Sean has extensive experience providing assurance, accounting, and other professional services to public and private companies across various industries. In his current role, he assists clients with new accounting standard adoptions, SOX readiness, technical accounting analysis, financial statement audits and project management. Sean previously completed a Global Rotation with the French national firm.

Senior Manager, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Jeff has over eight years of experience serving attest and non-attest clients, specializing in technical accounting matters and SEC reporting requirements related to ongoing reporting obligations and for internal controls. Jeff participates in and coordinates financial audit projects, internal control audit projects and performs quality control reviews for audits in accordance with US GAAP and the standards of the PCAOB and the SEC in diverse clients within Germany and the US.

Jeff serves as the lead Senior Manager on large public and multi-national companies in several industries focusing on retail, manufacturing, oil & gas and healthcare. Jeff recently repatriated from a Global Rotation with the German National office, developing and leading PCAOB training and coaching German Components SOX 404 rules. He is currently on assignment to Deloitte’s Global Firm to assist the Review Support group in maintaining quality throughout the Deloitte Global network.

Debbie Rheder

Global Ethics Leader, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Debbie Rheder serves as the Deloitte Global Chief Ethics Officer. As the Global Ethics Leader, she oversees the enterprise-wide ethics program focusing on promoting an ethical culture and a “speak up” environment. She provides guidance and oversight to ensure business decisions and operations are conducted in a manner that complies with Deloitte’s high ethical standards, enhances our culture, builds trust in our profession and preserves our reputation in the marketplace. Her function develops and leads education, awareness, outreach and communication of our global code of conduct, ethical principles and Deloitte shared values.  She partners closely with Risk, Legal, Talent, Corporate Responsibility, Public Policy, as well as Business Leaders.

Ms. Rheder has held other leadership roles including the Deloitte US Board Secretary and Managing Director of Deloitte US Consulting Partner Matters. With over twenty-five years of professional experience and twenty years at Deloitte, Ms. Rheder has a proven track record of tackling complex issues with successful results. She began her career as an auditor at KPMG and then joined an internet start-up as the Controller. In 2001, she joined Deloitte in the strategy and operations practice with a focus on cost optimizations, ERP and point solution implementations, process redesigns, and other impact driven engagements.

Ms. Rheder graduated from the University of Florida, where she earned a bachelor of science in accounting. She is a registered CPA and resides in Dallas, Texas with her husband and two children.
