  • carl arriola

    Carl Arriola

    Founder/President, PortaPros

Carl Arriola grew up in Boise, attended Borah High School, and then served three years on active duty with the U.S. Army. He returned to Boise where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and an MBA from Boise State University.
Carl began his business career with Arthur Andersen in their audit practice. He held certifications as a CPA and a CIA. Carl joined the Idaho Army National Guard, went to Officer Candidate School, and served ten years in the Reserve Component, which included a deployment as a Public Affairs Officer in Bosnia, Croatia, and Hungary.
His business career included finance and operations roles with BMC West and he served as CEO of Tates Rents. In 2012, he formed PortaPros and acquired ABC Sanitation and subsequently built a strong team to run the business. In 2014, Carl joined BPA Health in the role of President where he focused on organizational effectiveness, sales, and strategic planning.
Carl’s accounting education and initial experiences helped him understand the language of business and to evaluate and understand company financial dynamics. This skill set helped him build a career in business leadership and to later become an entrepreneur: “My undergraduate studies provided a base. When that base was coupled with experience and mentorship, I was able to grow and to learn how to manage a business.”
He’s enjoyed working in different industries. “I enjoy many aspects of sales, operations, and administration—and the challenges of relationships, customer experience, and trying to get the right folks together, working with a common vision,” said Carl. “I particularly enjoy small companies where change can happen quickly.”
Carl currently enjoys his role at Founder / President of PortaPros. PortaPros provides construction, commercial, and industrial portable sanitation products, and services throughout the Treasure Valley from its locations in Nampa, Idaho and Ontario, Oregon.
In addition to serving on the Advisory Council for the Department of Accountancy, Carl serves on the Board of the Portable Sanitation Association International, on the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Council. He was a Head Coach for Idaho Elite Club Basketball for four years. He has also served on the Board of the United Way of Treasure Valley as Chairman of the Community Impact Council and has had volunteer roles with Junior Achievement and The Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Carl is an avid cyclist and runner and is a member of St. Luke’s Sports Medicine / Lost River Cycling Club. He resides in North Boise and enjoys sports and traveling with his 17-year-old daughter (Brooklyn) and 15-year-old son (Augustus).
