Mandar Khanal earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Irvine, and his MS degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He is a registered civil engineer in California and Idaho. Dr. Khanal has many years of professional engineering experience. His last professional employment was with the California Department of Transportation in Orange County, California.
Dr. Khanal manages the Civil Engineering Department’s Transportation Engineering program. He has developed and taught various transportation engineering and planning courses. He has also led multiple research projects sponsored by various agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. He has disseminated the findings of his research via journal publications, conference proceedings, and presentations at different forums. His areas of research are roadway design, traffic operations and management, urban transport systems, transportation planning, and traffic modeling.
