Professor Miller earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa, a M.S. in Environmental Engineering and B.S. in Civil Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Miller is a licensed professional engineer in Idaho. Prior to joining Boise State University, Dr. Miller was an Associate Engineer with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.
Dr. Miller’s field of research is in the fate and transport of organic contaminants in natural and engineered systems. She is currently leading a number of research projects sponsored by Federal Aviation Administration, Hewlett-Packard and Office of Sponsored Projects at Boise State University, amounting to $118,000 in research funding.
Dr. Miller is a co-investigator for the FAA, “Particulate Matter Response Surface Model (PM RSM) Development for Aviation Activities Evaluation,” project which focuses on relating changes in aviation emissions to changes in local air quality amounting to $45,000 research funding.
Dr. Miller is the principal investigator on a $5,000, one year grant starting, “Water Reuse System Long-term Water Quality Monitoring,” sponsored by Boise State University’s Office of Sponsored Projects. This research project focuses on establishing a baseline data set to evaluate the suitability of reclaimed water use in public, high density building applications.
Dr. Miller is the principal investigator for a $68,000 grant sponsored by G.A. Hewlett-Packard/HP Corporate Philanthropy, “Models, Models Everywhere: An Initiative to Educate the Next Generation of Environmental Modelers,” starting in June 2007 to December 2008. The primary focus of this research project is to utilize HP Tablet PCs and modeling software to create experiential learning modules which effectively engage students in environmental modeling.
Dr. Miller has taught introduction to civil engineering, civil engineering case studies, contaminant transport, air pollution, engineering statics, and thesis for graduate students while at Boise State University.
