Local news reporter Abby Wilt visited the Boise State Computer Science Department to learn more about the creation of the first Bachelor’s of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence in Idaho and among the first of its kind in the United States.
Beginning Fall 2024, the first BS in Artificial Intelligence graduates are expected by Spring 2029. Dr. Casey Kennington told KTVB that these graduates will be ready for careers in data science and artificial intelligence and could make their own language models from scratch. Department Chair Dr. Jerry Fails noted this program’s development has been a long time coming, with faculty in the department at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence even before the recent rise of AI tools.
