Bio

Dr. Chiasson has worked for Boeing Aerospace in the area of guidance and navigation, for Honeywell Systems and Research Center in the area of navigation, for ABB in the area of traction drives and for Oak Ridge National Laboratory on the control of power electronic interfaces for electric vehicles. Dr. Chiasson is a Fellow of the IEEE for “Contributions to Control of Electric Machines and Power Converters”.

Research

Dr. Chiasson research interests are in the systems and controls area. He has used differential-algebraic methods for state estimation in electric machines and electromechanical systems. He has employed elimination theory to solve the nonlinear switching angle equations for harmonic elimination in multilevel inverters. His most recent work includes nonlinear parameter identification to estimate the parameters of large synchronous machines. He has also started to dabble in machine learning.
